Antipasti Stromboli

Antipasti Stromboli-15Who makes sandwiches on a regular basis? Sandwiches are probably one of the most common lunches, so I’m sure there are many of us with sandwich fixins in our fridge. That’s good news if you want to make this Stromboli, since you will probably have most of these ingredients on hand. Sandwiches may seem like a no-brainer, but when you put together just the perfect combination of deli meat with cheese and other toppings, adding crunch, brininess, saltiness and fresh flavors, something passable suddenly becomes a gourmet experience.

When the bread is freshly baked, the deli meat is hot, the cheese is melted and gooey and the rest of the ingredients add flavor and interest to the mix, you’ve got yourself a perfect meal. This is no longer a sandwich – it’s a sophisticated new cousin. Better yet, if you make the pizza dough in advance and have it in your freezer, you can whip this up any time you feel like it. You can use just about any kind of fillings that you have in you refrigerator. Here, the combination of common antipasti components come together in a perfectly beautiful and tasty Stromboli.

Ingredients:

1/2 of a batch homemade pizza dough

4 oz ham, thinly sliced

2 oz salami, sliced

1/2 cup roasted red peppers

1/4 cup jarred banana peppers

4-6 oz cheese, grated (Mozzarella, Provolone, etc.)

1 Tablespoon olive oil

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

2 Tablespoons finely grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

Cut a piece of Parchment paper to fit inside a half sheet sized rimmed baking sheet. Roll out the pizza dough to be approximately 15 x 10 inches and place it over the parchment paper. It’s easier if you roll it out right on top of the parchment paper.

Antipasti Stromboli-2Make 3/4 inch diagonal slashes along both sides of the pizza dough, leaving 1/3 of the dough in the center uncut.

Antipasti Stromboli-3Place the ham and salami down the center of the pizza dough.

Antipasti Stromboli-4Place the roasted red peppers and the banana peppers on top of the deli meat.

Antipasti Stromboli-5Top everything with the grated cheese.
