Homemade Ranch dressing is fresh, creamy, and full of flavor. It takes just 5-10 minutes to make and is so much better than store-bought versions - no preservatives, just real ingredients. Perfect as a dip, spread, or dressing!

homemade ranch dressing

Homemade Ranch dressing is a game-changer when it comes to flavor. Unlike the store-bought version, which can be loaded with preservatives and artificial ingredients, homemade Ranch is creamy, fresh, and bursting with real, vibrant flavor. It’s so easy to make yourself, and it only takes about 5-10 minutes to whip up! Once you try it, you’ll wonder why you ever bothered with the bottled stuff.

Not only does homemade Ranch taste so much better, but it’s incredibly versatile too. You can use it as a dip for veggies or chips, drizzle it over salads, or even spread it on sandwiches and wraps. The best part? You control what goes into it, so it’s made with all-natural ingredients and nothing you don’t want. Simple, flavorful, and fresh—what’s not to love?

Ingredients

  • buttermilk
  • mayonnaise
  • fresh herbs
  • lemon juice

The complete list of ingredients and their exact measurements can be found in the recipe card below.

How To Make Homemade Ranch Dressing

Whisk all the ingredients together. Store in the refrigerator for a few weeks to a month. Of course, you can't store this for years in your refrigerator, but it won't last very long. Besides, taking a few minutes to whisk up another batch is no trouble at all.

Everyone has their own personal preferences of using Ranch. I like to eat it as a dip with veggies, spread it on sandwiches instead of mayo, add it to tuna, or Ranch Potato Salad.

For those who are asking about a lower calorie/less fat recipe couldn't you use low fat or no fat mayo, buttermilk, and sour cream? It's worth a try.

      Mary,
For a lower calorie/fat dressing, use more lemon juice and less mayo. You can also use nonfat buttermilk and nonfat sour cream. That should work just fine.

This sounds fabulous…but I am watching my calories…any way to make this less fat-laden? 🙂

      Sorry, Lauri!
I'm not a nutritional specialist. I wouldn't know where to begin and it would take a lot of time.

Olya, I made this ranch today and its the best I have ever tried! I didn't have shallots, so added small onion instead. Thank you so much for the great recipes! May God bless you and your husband and your children that are waiting for you!

If I don't put shallots or chives, will the ranch still be good?
    Thanks

      Hi Olga,
Well, I don't have your tastebuds, so it's hard for me to answer that question. In my opinion, it won't taste as good, but I don't know - maybe you would like it? Make the dressing and add shallots and chives to half of it and leave the other half without it and see the difference:).

Vera, you're probably seeing shallot, its sort of an onion, they are small looking onions, kind of like those you would plant in the ground 🙂

Thank you for this recipe. I see in your picture with all your ingredients in the bowl, it looks like you added one extra thing (minced onion or garlic) that is not on your recipe. What is it?

That is one reason I don't buy ranch. Looking forward to trying this recipe. Thanks for posting.
