Your kids will love this green smoothie. It’s so healthy, creamy and, most importantly, very delicious too. It has so many nutritious ingredients but tastes like a dessert.

Green smoothie for kids, full of vitamins and nutrients but so delicious and tasty

If you’re looking for ways to get your children to eat more fruits and vegetables, this Green Smoothie is just what you need. This smoothie is such a nutritious breakfast, snack or dessert. Both of my boys love it, ask me to make it all the time and it’s so easy that my eight year old can now make it for all of us himself.

Green smoothies might be a little off putting to some children if they aren’t used to them, but this is a great recipe to introduce to them. The green color is pretty and a happy light green, not a weird brownish green or pond green, so I think that they are more willing to try it.

It also passes the taste test with FLYING colors – it tastes phenomenal. The addition of the pineapple and mangos make it really sweet and delicious, without having to add any additional sugar or sweeteners. As a parent, you’ll feel great that your child is getting so many vitamins and nutrients from this smoothie. It’s so amazing, you’ll want to make some for yourself too.

Ingredients

  • water
    • Instead of the water, you can use any kind of milk (non-dairy too), juice or even leftover whey from making homemade ricotta or yogurt.
  • yogurt (homemade yogurt or store bought yogurt, either one will be great).
    • I use unsweetened, unflavored yogurt, but any yogurt will work, your smoothie will be sweeter though.
  • bananas
    • The bananas make the yogurt really creamy and add a mild tropical flavor to the yogurt.
  • avocado
    • Avocados are healthy and full of vitamins and nutrients, but they also make the smoothie really creamy and also have a very mild flavor that most children will not be able to detect.
  • frozen pineapple
  • frozen mango
    • You can use other frozen fruit and berries in the smoothie, such as frozen peaches, strawberries, blueberries, etc. However, depending on what you use, the taste will be different and the color of the smoothie too. Instead of a pleasant light green color, you may end up with something that looks more brown or purple. (In that case, pour it into a thermos that isn’t see through and it’ll be fine.)
  • spinach (baby spinach is my preference)
    • Spinach is one of the best leafy greens to use for smoothies for children. It doesn’t have a strong flavor and has a pretty green color.
  • Optional sweeteners – honey, maple syrup, agave syrup
    • If you use other frozen fruit, sometimes they aren’t as sweet and you may need to add some additional sweeteners.

How To Make a Green Smoothie

  1. Place all the ingredients into the blender.
    • It’s important to load up the blender starting with the liquid ingredients, then the softer ingredients, such as the banana, avocado, yogurt and end with the frozen fruit on top. This way, your blender will be less likely to stall and will mix up the smoothie into a creamy, smooth consistency faster.
    • Blend the smoothie starting on low speed and eventually increasing to high.
  2. Taste the smoothie and add additional sweetener, if needed. If the smoothie is too thick or the blender stalls, you might need to stir it and add more liquid.
  3. Serve right away.
